FAQ

Who is West Seattle Bridge Now?

We are a coalition of concerned citizens, businesses, and community groups formed in response to the closure of the West Seattle Bridge on March 23, 2020. The closure is a crisis for the greater Seattle region that affects not only the 80,000 people who live in West Seattle, but also everyone in the region who will be impacted by traffic rerouting. We believe we need sensible and timely solutions that serve the entire community now and in the future.

What are your goals?

The city and outside experts acknowledge there are no viable alternatives for rerouting the 100,000 riders a day that used the West Seattle Bridge prior to March 23, 2020. We are calling on our city, state, and federal leaders to create and regularly communicate bold and innovative measures now to mitigate the short-term impacts of the closure while planning for a long-term solution on an accelerated time frame. This is an urgent situation, and we believe we need to be laser-focused on the quickest path to a definitive solution.

How are you focusing your efforts?

We are building a comprehensive community resource where everyone can get the latest information and learn how to get involved in addressing this urgent regional crisis. We are also advocating for immediate, realistic options to keep West Seattle connected until a long-term solution to repair or replace the bridge is in place.

Who is involved? Are you affiliated with any political organization or other group?

West Seattle Bridge Now is a group of concerned residents with no affiliation other than living in and/or working in West Seattle. All of us are volunteers. We welcome everyone who shares a sense of urgency to join us.
